What you can expect here at Bake with Jamie:

Hi, I’m Jamie, the recipe developer and comfort food loving Minnesotan behind this website!

Here you’ll find Midwestern-style comfort foods, old-fashioned baked goods, and sourdough discard recipes! I love to make the classics, but enjoy putting my own spin on them.

I believe that the kitchen should be a place of joy. Where memories are made, delicious food is enjoyed, and traditions are shared with family and friends.

I prefer to follow the seasons in my cooking. In the autumn and winter months, I love to cook hearty meals, including soups, homemade bread, and hotdishes.

In spring and summer, I enjoy cooking lighter meals using fresh vegetables and fruity and light desserts.

I started baking sourdough bread several years ago, and fell madly in love with the process. If you were to step into my kitchen, you’d find an active sourdough starter sitting on the counter and jars (yes, plural) of sourdough discard in my fridge.

To reduce food waste, I quickly realized that I needed to make use of the extra sourdough discard. A few of my favorite sourdough discard recipes are the chocolate chip cookies, lemon poppyseed cupcakes, and banana chocolate chip muffins.

A few favorite recipes

Some of my favorite cold-weather meals are chicken wild rice soup or a piping hot bowl of chili with buttermilk cornbread.

A few of my favorite autumn/winter desserts are tahini pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, these gooey caramel chocolate chip bars, and spice bundt cake with caramel cream cheese frosting.

If you’re looking for a fancy dessert to make for special occasions, you’ve got to make my turtle cheesecake with Biscoff cookie crust!

A little about me

I am a mom of three kiddos and I’m married to my very own lumberjack. We homeschool, so we are often out exploring nature, attending extra-curriculars, or pursuing various passion projects of theirs.

Baking has always been a form of therapy for me. I find great joy in making my loved ones home-cooked meals and homemade desserts! I’ve been baking in the kitchen since I can remember and I’ve found it is a true joy of mine!

I still use the rolling pin that my great-grandmother used when she baked. She lived through three centuries and even owned her own café at the age of 17 (!!!). I have fond memories of her feeding us her homemade goodies–one of my favorites being her fresh doughnuts. Heavenly.

When I’m not baking, I love to run! I’ve run countless races from 5ks to full marathons. My favorite race distance is the half marathon. I’ve lost count of how many half-marathons I’ve run, but it’s in the ballpark of around 30.
